“One of the most unique aspects of YGB’s approach is our commitment to providing mental health and support services as long as families need.”
Martha, an adoption-competent therapist at YGB, offers personalized mental health services tailored to the unique needs of each YGB family. Passionate about long-term, trauma-informed care, Martha believes anything less is simply a band-aid, and our youth and families deserve comprehensive support.
With over a decade of therapeutic experience and expertise in adoption-competent therapy, Martha brings a wealth of knowledge to her work with YGB youth and families. However, it’s her personal journey that truly fuels her dedication and uniquely positions her to connect with YGB families.
Martha and her wife, Kathleen, embarked on their own adoption journey over a decade ago, ultimately welcoming two beautiful girls into their family through foster care adoption. Beginning their path with parent training classes at YGB, Martha not only understands families from a clinical perspective but also from a parent’s perspective. Whatever challenges arise, she’s been there too.
Today, every YGB family is eligible for free adoption-competent therapy, a game-changer in Martha’s work. She emphasizes how critical this support is, enabling families to overcome challenges, heal trauma, and stay together.
“One of the most unique aspects of YGB’s approach is our commitment to providing mental health and support services as long as families need,” says Martha. She believes in the transformative power of therapy tailored to each family’s needs, fostering healing and resilience.
In 2023, YGB received a transformative $107,000 grant from Impact 100 NYC, making YGB’s Mental Health Program possible. Generous donors continue to fund free therapy for YGB families. Martha highlights the importance of this funding, stating, “So often, families are hindered by insurance limitations or the burden of paying high out-of-pocket fees for therapy. Providing these crucial services free of cost allows families the time they need to heal and develop strategies for thriving.”
Martha’s dedication, coupled with YGB’s unwavering support, ensures that every YGB family has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive together.
