You Gotta Believe: Parent Spotlight

Lauren, YGB Parent

“My wife and I are adopting older children through You Gotta Believe! They do incredible work to connect kids at risk of aging out of foster care with permanent families. We have taken 30 hours of classes, completed mounds of paperwork and a homestudy, and we are delighted to have matched with our amazing children!”
Hare Lauren

Lauren and her wife recently completed YGB’s specialized parent training. YGB staff facilitate a specified parent training with a focus on permanency and trauma-informed care. All instruction is provided by credible messengers, (individuals with personal experience with foster care or adoption).

Lauren and her wife chose to partner with You Gotta Believe (YGB) due to our prioritization of supporting and affirming LGBTQ+ families. Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ parents still face discrimination when trying to adopt. We proudly welcome individuals of all genders, relationship statuses, and orientations to become permanent YGB parents.

YGB is also committed to supporting and affirming our youth. Approximately one-third of youth in foster care identify as LGBTQ+, often facing rejection by their parents. That’s why at YGB, all parents are required to sign a pledge that they will provide an affirming, supportive, and welcoming home for their children.

Lauren and her wife recently matched with a sibling group, making an unconditional commitment to love and support these kids for a lifetime. YGB remains steadfast in supporting the entire family every step of the way!

While the journey to becoming a new family is wonderful and exciting, it can also be challenging. Most YGB parents are learning how to provide love and support to a child who has experienced trauma. That’s why YGB provides families with 24/7 support for as long as needed.

Our expert support staff are credible messengers with personal connections to foster care and adoption, offering a decisive difference from agencies where caseworkers often lack personal experience, and support expires after 90 days.

In addition to being a new YGB parent, Lauren is actively involved in the YGB community. In November 2023, she joined YGB’s NYC Marathon team, with every stride supporting our mission to find forever families for older foster youth.
