Guillermo knows firsthand the power of advocacy and compassion. Placed in foster care at 15, he moved from group home to group home, feeling powerless. That changed when he arrived at what he thought was another temporary placement—only to hear his foster mother say, “I’m taking him.” That moment of unconditional commitment reshaped his life.

Guillermo first joined You Gotta Believe (YGB) as an iFoster-AmeriCorps intern, quickly becoming a strong voice for foster youth. During his internship, he co-facilitated workshops in residential facilities, developed leadership skills, and represented YGB at community events—using his story to raise awareness and inspire action. He also played a key role in YGB’s Parent Training and Youth Empowerment Groups, proving how credible messengers—those who have walked the same path—are uniquely positioned to support others.

Now a YGB Advocate, Guillermo works to ensure other young people experience the same sense of belonging that changed his life. Having seen how impersonal the system can be, he values YGB’s focus on real human connection. Whether mentoring youth, connecting families, or leading outreach efforts, Guillermo brings lived experience and deep compassion to everything he does, amplifying the voices of young people who deserve to be heard.
