For years, Josh and Skylar dreamed of becoming parents. When they found You Gotta Believe, they were drawn in by its welcoming spirit and classes that offered a gentle, no-pressure way to imagine what family could look like.
The classes opened their eyes to something they hadn’t pictured before: the chance to build a family with an older youth.
Not long after, YGB introduced them to Carlos. From the moment they saw his profile, they felt a spark. When they finally met, their nervousness gave way to certainty—this was their son.
“We were sitting there with butterflies,” Josh remembers. “And Carlos walked in calm and confident. We just knew.”
The adoption was finalized in 2019, and life together quickly filled with small, joyful rituals. They bonded over ceramics, embarked on “pizza quests,” and shared their love of comic books and video games. Everyday moments that meant everything to Carlos.
“I feel like I belong now,” Carlos says. “My life has meaning. I have someone to lean on when I’m not feeling good. I’m happier… Less depressed. It’s changed my life in so many ways.”
Carlos’s joy deepened when his family grew again. With YGB’s support, Josh and Skylar welcomed Austin—and later reunited him with his twin sister, Shea. Suddenly, what began as three became five.
“Our family went from one child to five,” Skylar shares. “It was a big change—and a wonderful one. We reunited twins who had been tragically separated and became a lively, joyful family full of love and chaos.”
Today, their home is vibrant and full of life. The kids thrive side by side, knowing they will never again face the future alone.
This is what it means to believe in family. This is why YGB exists—and why your support makes all the difference.
